Founded in 1984, when the Walkman and MTV dominated pop culture and leg warmers and big hair infiltrated fashion, the ASRT Foundation will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate the milestone anniversary the Foundation has adopted the slogan Fab at 40 and a 1980s theme with plans to raise $400,000 to support scholarships in 2024.
Among the events planned is a 1980s themed fundraiser on June 29 during the ASRT Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting in Orlando, Florida. All funds raised will support professional and educational advancement opportunities for medical imaging and radiation therapy students and professionals. The Foundation will also launch the Matching Partner campaign where donations will be matched by participating donors. For further information email foundation@asrt.org.
Recent scholarship recipients thanked the Foundation for helping them achieve their professional and educational goals.
Madeleine Karrington, recipient of the Jerman-Cahoon Student Scholarship said, “I got so emotional when I found out I’d been awarded the scholarship. At the time, I was running out of options and was considering taking out loans. I’m grateful that I didn’t have to do that.” Karrington is a student at Weber State University School of Radiologic Sciences in Ogden, Utah.
Alexis Cran, B.S.R.S., R.T.(R), recipient of the Philip W. Ballinger Scholarship, said, “The Foundation does so many good things for radiographers. To be picked for the scholarship tells me that my story and my hard work are worth something to somebody.” Cran is the radiography program director at Ascension St. Vincent’s in Jacksonville, Florida.
“We are proud to have played a part for the past 40 years in impacting the lives of those pursuing careers and working in the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession. This impact would not have happened without the support and donations from individuals and corporations. Each contribution is transformational for our recipients,” said Steve Hardy, M.S., R.T.(R)(T)(CT), CMD, chief operating officer for the ASRT Foundation and executive vice president of development and corporate relations for ASRT.
The Foundation invites individuals and corporations to start a named scholarship or have their names included on the ASRT Foundation Donor Wall, located near the entrance of the ASRT Museum and Archives at the ASRT office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition, campaign supporters have the option to purchase naming rights to facilities and meeting spaces at the ASRT office. Donations may also be made through the Foundation website by selecting the Give Now option at the top of the page.
