Rebecca LudwigWhile celebrating National Radiologic Technology Week® a year ago, Rebecca Ludwig, Ph.D., R.T.(R)(QM), FAEIRS, FASRT, found herself reflecting on how things have changed in the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession; changes that have come about because of research conducted by R.T.s.

That’s when Rebecca set about creating the Emerging Researchers Award, a donor-funded research grant, through the ASRT Foundation. After making the initial donation to create the fund, she wasted no time in reaching out to the R.T. community. She sought out others who are committed to supporting research in the profession.

Marilyn SackettMarilyn Sackett, M.Ed., R.T.(R), FASRT, was one of the first donors to join Rebecca in contributing to the Emerging Researchers Award. Marilyn isn’t a researcher herself, but after more than 50 years as an R.T., she recognizes the value and impact of research. She seized the opportunity to be a part of ensuring that future researchers have access to the funding they need and worked to get others involved in making this an endowed award.

A passionate group of donors joined Rebecca and Marilyn in donating to the newly created award fund. In 13 months, support from these generous individuals made it possible to permanently endow the research grant. Their generosity enables the ASRT Foundation to fund R.T.-led research projects in perpetuity through this award.

Reliable funding for research in the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession is not easy to find. The lack of financial resources deters many R.T.s from conducting research projects that could change the profession and improve patient care. Research is an essential component in moving the radiologic sciences forward and keeping the profession strong.

The donors who rallied behind Rebecca’s vision for this award are helping to ensure that research continues to be done by medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals. Thanks to these forward-thinking individuals, members of the R.T. community will have dedicated funds available through the Foundation to support their research.

You can be a part of supporting Rebecca’s vision for the future by donating to this member-funded research grant. Your donation will help increase the number of projects that can be funded.
