ASRT member Darcy Willis, M.S.Ed., R.T.(R)(CT), is the 2023-2024 recipient of the ASRT Foundation’s Marilyn Sackett Leadership Scholarship.
The scholarship is named in honor of Marilyn Sackett, M.Ed., R.T.(R), FASRT, who spent more than 50 years as a radiologic technologist. Sackett created the program to encourage R.T.s to accept leadership challenges. She believes that leadership advances the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession.
Willis currently serves as a faculty member for the radiography program and one of three department chairs at Madison College’s School of Health Sciences in Wisconsin. She also leads the School of Health Sciences Interprofessional Education Committee and serves on several other college committees.
"When I learned that I was selected for the award, I was beyond excited and honored. It made me feel validated in my pursuit of a leadership role,” said Willis. “As I grow, I have learned that whether mastering your skills in a selected discipline, pursuing additional credentials, seeking a degree or transitioning into a management role, we need to take time and enjoy the journey."
This is the first year the ASRT Foundation has offered the Marilyn Sackett Leadership Scholarship. It provides up to $5,000 to a medical imaging or radiation therapy professional pursuing an education or a development opportunity in education management, administrative management or a quality management initiative that includes recruiting and working with a mentor.
