ASRT Military Chapter 20th Anniversary CoinOn June 22, 1995, the ASRT House of Delegates voted to establish the Military Chapter. Now, 20 years later, the chapter celebrated this milestone by minting and offering to the public a commemorative coin. It’s not the first time the chapter has minted a coin to celebrate a milestone.

United States Master Sgt. Sixto “Six” Garza, R.T.(R)(CT), had the first coin minted for the chapter in 2002. Nearly every delegate at that year’s Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting bought one.

The chapter had another coin minted for their 10th anniversary in 2005. Only 100 were minted, each numbered. The No. 1 coin was presented to Ginger Griffin, who established the chapter, and the No. 100 coin went to Mike Latimer, who at the time had been a chapter delegate for five years, was the current chairman of the chapter and was being installed as the ASRT secretary-treasurer at the conclusion of the meeting. The remaining coins continue to be distributed to those who contribute to the chapter or military radiography. Chapter delegates receive coins from 100 down, and civilians from 1 up, with all coin recipients being recorded by the chapter.

The chapter went above and beyond in celebrating its 20th anniversary. Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Stevenson, R.T.(R)(CT), coordinated the creation of a special pin, a commemorative coin and a custom-made metal sign showcasing the ASRT logo. The coins were offered for purchase during the 2015 annual governance meeting and are available online in the ASRT Store. The sign, which now hangs in the main entrance of the ASRT office, was presented to ASRT CEO Sal Martino, Ed.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, CAE, at the ASRT governance meeting to honor the opening of the ASRT Museum and Archives.

The chapter continues to serve others by donating all proceeds from the coin purchases to the ASRT Foundation. This donation helps improve the lives of R.T.s and students through programs that empower and support them, enhancing their ability to serve patients. The Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to those who have purchased a commemorative coin and to the Military Chapter for their service and generosity. Congratulations on a great 20 years!
