The ASRT Foundation has awarded funding to a researcher at the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health at Northwestern State University in Louisiana. Cindy McGuire, Ed.D., R.T.(R)(M), will investigate the predictive relationship between levels of resilience, emotional intelligence and age in health care students using a non-experimental predictive correlational design.

Dr. McGuire currently serves as the director of grants and planning and associate professor for the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health at Northwestern State University. Her experience includes diagnostic imaging, mammography, health care administration and public education. In 2000, Dr McGuire received the Joint Service Achievement Medal from the Department of Defense for her work in diagnostic imaging while stationed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The New Researcher Grant is designed to provide up to $3,000 in support of first-time researchers and offers free access to professional development courses to help boost research and writing skills.

“With the generous funding provided by ASRT Foundation,” Dr. McGuire said, “I believe my research can explore an increased understanding of the relationship between emotional intelligence and resilience that will help educators to influence students' positive retention and clinical experiences while better preparing graduates to join the workforce.”

The ASRT Foundation, philanthropic arm of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, funds and shares the research and analysis of many issues that affect medical imaging technologists and radiation therapists, helping to cultivate the next generation of researchers. The Foundation offers a continuum of research grant opportunities to support researchers of all experience levels.
