The ASRT Foundation has awarded $422,375 in scholarships to 99 recipients for the 2024-2025 academic year. This is the highest scholarship dollar amount the ASRT Foundation has awarded to date.
This year's recipients include practicing professionals working toward new certifications and degrees and entry-level students attending colleges and universities throughout the United States. The Foundation offered 23 scholarships ranging from $725 to $5,000. The scholarships are funded through partnerships with corporations, nonprofits and generous ASRT members.
The ASRT Foundation Scholarship Review Committee completed the application review process in February and provided its recommendations to the ASRT Foundation Board of Trustees, who then approved the applicants. Applicants were selected based on evidence of commitment, leadership, achievement and financial need.
There were two new scholarships added, the Hente Fellows Scholarship and the Virginia Milligan Memorial Scholarship. The Hente Fellows Scholarship will support entry-level students pursuing education to become technologists with preference given to students from Missouri. The scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Barbara Hente, B.A., R.T.(N), CNMT, FASRT, FMoSRT, and is in memory of her husband Norman Hente, M.S., R.T.(R), FASRT, FMoSRT. The Hente's were dedicated to supporting the radiologic sciences.
The Virginia Milligan Memorial Scholarship will support students and experienced radiologic technologists as they help move the profession forward and is made possible by a generous donation from Virginia Milligan, R.T.(R), FASRT, who had a 61-year career in the radiologic sciences and witnessed many advancements in the profession.
In addition, donations from the recent Invisible Heroes 5K Walk/Run hosted by ASRT provided a $4,000 Professional Advancement Scholarship to Yassir Colon.
“We are so grateful to offer the largest scholarship amount for the second year in a row. Thanks to the support of our donors, partners and members who help support current and future generations of radiologic technologists” said Steve Hardy, M.S., R.T.(R)(T)(CT), CMD, chief operating officer for the ASRT Foundation and executive vice president of development and corporate relations for ASRT.
