A pillar in the R.T. community, Marilyn Fay, M.A., R.T.(R), helped shape the radiologic technology profession. As the executive director of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), Marilyn believed that accreditation is vital to the continued integrity of radiologic science educational programs and to the profession as a whole.
She oversaw the JRCERT’s 1994 transition from a review committee to an independent accrediting agency and worked tirelessly to ensure that patients continue to receive top-notch patient care.
Marilyn once said, “Without accreditation, there would be no degree of assurance that quality patient care would be provided, an unconscionable action considering the many dangers of using radiation to perform diagnostic examinations.” Her influence on the profession is visible to this day.
Loved by many, Marilyn will be sorely missed. Neta McKnight, B.A., R.T.(R), FASRT, a longtime ASRT member, fondly remembers traveling the country with Marilyn to attend conferences and meetings. The two were also very close friends. Neta recently made a generous contribution to the ASRT Foundation in memory of Marilyn.
“Marilyn dedicated her life to improving the profession and recognizing the professionalism of R.T.s. I wanted to take a moment to honor her life and everything that she has done for all of us," noted Neta. “Whether you make a contribution to the ASRT Foundation in her honor or not, I hope that you will take a moment to remember the life and legacy of an incredible R.T.”
