The ASRT Foundation Annual Drawing offers members a fun way to contribute to their profession, and proceeds help fund the Foundation’s numerous scholarships and grants supporting medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals and students. This year, the Foundation has reinvigorated the program by bringing back the first prize getaway. Buying tickets for the 2023 Annual Drawing gives members a chance to win a five-night trip for two
to a location of their choosing in the contiguous U.S., Alaska or Hawaii, covering up to $3,999 in expenses.
Ticket holders will also have the chance to win one $500 and three $100 prizes. Additionally, the Foundation uses the Annual Drawing to help support affiliate societies with two grants: one for the affiliate that sells the most tickets and another for the affiliate that raises the most money per capita.
If you need another reason to buy a handful of tickets, here’s a snapshot of how the 2022 winners created memories and continued giving back to the profession.
A Much-Needed Vacation
For Suzzette Spencer, R.R.A., R.T.(R)(CT), buying Annual Drawing tickets is a way to help others grow in the profession. When the call came that she’d won the first prize, she was at a loss for words. “I was at work in the hospital, and I had to step out of the reading room because I couldn’t hold in the excitement,” Suzzette said. “When I got home, I was jumping for joy!” She used the winnings to take her family on a cruise — a first-time experience for her children and husband.
New Tech for a Technologist
Lisa McMillan, R.T.(R)(M)(CT), received a $500 prize and said it was “a very pleasant surprise.” She used her winnings to purchase a new computer. When she bought the tickets, Lisa wasn’t thinking about winning; she just wanted to support the Foundation and the services it provides for the profession and technologists.
Giving Back
Retired technologist Joan Parsons, who served as ASRT interim CEO in 1997, secured not one but two winning tickets for $100 apiece. For members who aren’t sure how to get involved with ASRT, she believes that “being a participant in this fundraiser is a good way to give back.” Joan demonstrated that belief by donating her prize money back to the Foundation. “If we technologists don’t give back to our profession, who will?” she said.
Your Turn
The Foundation’s Annual Drawing is its single largest fundraiser of the year. Foundation Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Development and Corporate Relations Steven Hardy, M.S., R.T.(R)(T)(CT), CMD, encourages members to buy tickets in support of the profession. “The Foundation saw a drastic reduction in participation in this program during the pandemic,” he said. “I hope members will be inspired to participate this year.” You can purchase tickets from Feb. 20 to May 31 by visiting foundation.asrt.org/WinWin.
