ASRT Foundation Awards More Than $230,000 in Scholarships to Radiologic Science Professionals and Students
The ASRT Foundation has announced the recipients of its entry-level and professional scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year.
"It's an exciting year for the ASRT Foundation because we have several new scholarship opportunities for deserving radiologic science professionals and students,” said Phelosha Collaros, ASRT Foundation’s director. “With the generous support from individual donors and corporate sponsors, these 69 R.T.s and students at all levels will have the tools they need to further their education and careers. It's a testament to the commitment and collaborative spirit of the radiologic technology community."
The Foundation’s entry-level scholarship program provides financial support for outstanding students working to complete a radiologic technology or radiation therapy educational program. This year’s entry-level scholarship recipients are:
Elekta Radiation Therapy Scholarship, $5,000 each
This scholarship is made possible by a generous grant from Elekta.
- Taek Oh of Midlothian, Virginia, enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at Virginia Commonwealth University.
- Rory Rosselot of Rocky Point, New York, enrolled in an associate degree program at Nassau Community College.
- Christopher Williams of Norman, Oklahoma, enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
- Christopher Yacabucci of Hopewell Junction, New York, enrolled in a certificate program at Memorial Hospital School of Radiation Therapy Technology.
Jerman-Cahoon Student Scholarship, $2,500 each
This scholarship was created in honor of Edward Jerman and John Cahoon and is made possible by support from ASRT Foundation Patrons and a generous grant from the ASRT.
- Tori Babcock of Kennebunk, Maine, enrolled in an associate degree program at Southern Maine Community College.
- Zachary Cress of Cache, Oklahoma, enrolled in an associate degree program at the Great Plains Technology Center.
- Hilary Halford of Fort Gaines, Georgia, enrolled in an associate degree program at Albany Technical College.
- Emily Knox of Stratham, New Hampshire, enrolled in an associate degree program at Northern Essex Community College.
- Anne Munn of Peachtree, Georgia, enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at Emory University.
- Stephanie Robles of Mount Vernon, Indiana, enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at the University of Southern Indiana.
Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship, $4,000 each
This scholarship is made possible by a generous grant from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and donations from our Patrons.
- Sharita Bone of Cincinnati, Ohio, enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at the University of Cincinnati-Main Campus.
- Abigail Gaitiu of Bolingbrook, Illinois, enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at Emory University.
- Jazmin Gaona of Sparks, Nevada, enrolled in an associate degree program at Truckee Meadows Community College.
- Devanee Gonzalez of McAllen, Texas, enrolled in an associate degree program at South Texas College.
- Theresa Talley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, enrolled in an associate degree program at Central New Mexico Community College.
The professional scholarship program helps radiologic science professionals meet financial obligations to return to school for completion of a degree or to obtain additional certification. This year’s professional scholarship recipients are:
Radiologic Sciences Educator Scholarship, $5,000 each
This scholarship is made possible by donations to the ASRT Foundation.
- April Bowman of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, enrolled in a master’s degree program at Saint Catharine College.
- Kelli Haynes of Shreveport, Louisiana, enrolled in a doctoral degree program at the University of Louisiana Monroe.
- Cheryl Turner of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, enrolled in a doctoral degree program at Liberty University.
- Christopher Wertz of Iowa Park, Texas, enrolled in a doctoral degree program at Boise State University.
Professional Advancement Scholarship, $2,000 each
This scholarship is made possible by generous donations to the ASRT Foundation and a charitable contribution from ASRT’s JobBank® partner, HEALTHeCAREERS.

Named in memory of former ASRT Foundation Chairman Cathy Parsons, this scholarship is made possible by donations to the ASRT Foundation and a generous grant from the ASRT.

Individual Scholarship Endowment Awards, varies from $250 to $1,000 each
These scholarships are established by individual donors through endowment funds. Recipients are selected based on a variety of criteria such as modality or long-term career interests.
Philip W. Ballinger Endowed Scholarship Award, $1,000 each
- Mary Doucette of Spring Creek, Nevada, enrolled in a doctoral program at Grand Canyon University.
- Jafauri Ely of Warren, Michigan, enrolled in a doctoral program at Walden University.
- Christa Weigel of Victoria, Kansas, enrolled in a doctoral program in education at Northcentral University.
James and Stephanie Johnston Journey Scholarship Award, $500 each
- Courtney Allen of Fort Kent, Maine, enrolled in a master's degree program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Marie L. A. Racine Scholarship Award, $500 each
- Brittany Bagwell of Waco, TX, enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at Midwestern State University.
Radiation Therapy Pioneers Award, $250 each
- Stephanie Olson of Waunakee, Wisconsin, enrolled in a master's degree program at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Richard S. Kay Endowed Scholarship Award, $250 each
- Christopher Bergendahl of East Windsor, Connecticut, enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at the University of Hartford.
Scholarship recipients submitted applications and were selected based on evidence of commitment, leadership, achievement and financial need. The Foundation's Scholarship Review Committee evaluated scholarship applications and provided recommendations to the Board of Trustees. Recipients were then approved by the Board of Trustees.
