ASRT members Maria Dimopoulos, Ph.D., M.B.A., R.T.(T), and Lorrie LeGrand, M.S.Hc., R.T.(T), have been selected as the 2024 ASRT Foundation International Speakers Exchange Award recipients.
Dr. Dimopoulos will present “Identifying Radiation Therapists’ Perceptions of Potentially Triggering Aspects of Care for Sexual Violence Survivors Undergoing Radiotherapy” at the United Kingdom Imaging and Oncology Congress 2024, June 10-12, in Liverpool, England. Dr. Dimopoulos is an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where she leads the Center in Radiation Sciences Education. She received her doctorate in health professions leadership and education from Pacific University and a master’s in business administration in health care from Simmons University. Dr. Dimopoulos serves on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences and is a member of the ASRT Foundation Research Grants and Advisory Panel.
LeGrand will present “Radiation Oncology Systems and Data - How to Get the Most Out of Your Electronic Medical Record and Electronic Health Record,” at the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists national conference, May 24-25, in Saint John, New Brunswick. She holds a master’s degree in health sciences from Nova Southeastern University, a bachelor’s degree in health sciences from Worcester State University and an associate degree in radiation therapy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She is employed at the Miami Cancer Institute as the director of radiation oncology.
LeGrand recently co-authored “A Comprehensive Analysis of a Prospective Multidisciplinary Peer Review Process Before Radiation Therapy Simulation,” published in Practical Radiation Oncology as well as “Evaluation of a Prospective Radiation Oncology Departmental Team Review Process Using Standardized Simulation Directives,” published in Radiotherapy and Oncology.
For more than a decade, the ASRT Foundation has funded radiologic technologists to participate in the ISEA program. It promotes global cooperation through the sharing of research, best practices and professional development in the radiologic sciences. The ISEA program provides the opportunity for two outstanding ASRT members to travel to one international conference each year and present to an audience of their peers and other related health care professionals. It also provides speakers with the opportunity to forge important professional connections with international colleagues. The award includes conference registration, travel and lodging expenses and a stipend to cover related costs.
