Scholarships Currently Offered for ASRT Members

These ASRT Foundation scholarships are provided thanks to individuals and corporations who understand the importance of highly skilled radiologic technologists and the power of education to create a brighter future.

When you apply you only need to complete one application. Based on your answers to the application questions, your scholarship application will be auto-matched with all scholarship opportunities that you qualify for. Awards for the 2024-2025 year range from $500 - $5,000.

 

Bob Cassling Memorial Scholarship

Cassling is an Advanced Partner and authorized sales and service organization for Siemens Healthineers. Founded in 1984 by Bob Cassling and headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, the company is committed to offering comprehensive support to health care providers — including world-renowned diagnostic imaging equipment, 24/7 service, project management, marketing, continuing education and everything in between. Cassling is a strong supporter of the imaging profession and believes professional development and ongoing education are essential to creating a vibrant health care community. Cassling helps organizations of every size, from critical access hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers to large health systems, to increase efficiency, decrease costs and enhance patient care. The purpose of this scholarship is to support medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals working in rural areas pursuing an academic degree or obtaining an additional certification.

 

Elekta Radiation Therapy Scholarship

Elekta is a human care company pioneering significant innovations and clinical solutions for treating cancer and brain disorders. The Elekta Radiation Therapy Scholarship was established to help the best and brightest students afford their radiation therapy programs. Elekta cares deeply about the oncology profession and is a passionate supporter of radiation therapists.

In recognition of the importance of improving diversity, inclusion and representation in the health care industry, at least two of these scholarships will be awarded to Black students.

 

Elio “Leo” DelVecchio Scholarship

This scholarship was created by Michael DelVecchio, B.S., R.T.(R), FASRT in loving memory of his father, retired United States Army Sergeant, Elio “Leo” DelVecchio. Elio was a hardworking, lifelong learner himself, but his true achievement was his encouragement and celebration of his and his family’s educational achievements to build a better life for all. This scholarship will award a medical imaging professional pursuing an academic degree.

 

Hente Fellows Scholarship

Norman Hente, M.S., R.T.(R), FASRT, FMoSRT, and Barbara Hente, B.A., R.T.(N), CNMT, FASRT, FMoSRT, found joy and purpose in the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession. Their work with the ASRT and support of the ASRT Foundation demonstrated their dedication to the radiologic sciences. The Hente Fellows Scholarship will support entry-level students pursuing education to become technologists, with preference given to students from Missouri.

 

Hologic Mammography Scholarship

Hologic is a leading innovator in women’s health, helping health care professionals around the world diagnose and treat their patients with precision, certainty and confidence. The Hologic Mammography Scholarship was created for radiologic technologists pursuing educational opportunities to become eligible to take the mammography certification exam. James and Stephanie Johnston Journey Scholarship

This scholarship invites fellow radiologic technologists to celebrate a profession that brought this couple together and continues to inspire its journey. In endowing a scholarship, James and Stephanie ask only that those who receive one pay it forward in terms of giving back to the radiologic sciences. Recipients of this scholarship will be individuals with a medical imaging background who are pursuing a master’s degree or doctorate to further their careers as educators or managers.

 

Jerman-Cahoon Student Scholarship

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists established the Jerman-Cahoon Student Scholarship in honor of Ed C. Jerman, founder of the Society, and John B. Cahoon Jr., former ASRT president and a highly respected educator. This scholarship will award entry-level students in a radiography, sonography, magnetic resonance or nuclear medicine program.

 

Jorge A. Casañas Hispanic Scholarship

Jorge A. Casañas, M.Ed., R.T.(R)(CV)(QM), believes in making a difference as a technologist, supervisor, educator, volunteer and philanthropist while staying engaged and involved in the profession. Jorge, a recipient of the International Speaker Exchange Grant in 2008, past member of the ASRT Foundation Scholarship Review Committee and longtime supporter of the ASRT Foundation, established the Jorge A. Casañas Hispanic Scholarship to give back to the profession and support entry-level Hispanic students achieving their first college degree in a radiography or radiologic science program.

 

Joy and Jordan Renner Educator Scholarship

Joy and Jordan Renner have dedicated their professional careers to advancing the art and science of imaging through higher-quality images and safer patient care. They established this scholarship to support individuals who seek further education to become leaders in the profession and in radiologic science education at all levels. Recipients of this scholarship will be medical imaging educators who have given back to the profession by means of volunteer service and who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher.

 

LGBTQ+ Scholarship

Bill May, M.Ed., R.T.(R), FASRT, a founding member of the ASRT Foundation Board of Trustees, created the scholarship to encourage and support those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning in their pursuit of higher education in the radiologic sciences. Recipients of this scholarship will have demonstrated involvement in LGBTQ+ community activities as a member or leader of a LGBTQ+ club or other civic activity connected to the community.

 

Marie L. A. Racine Scholarship

A scholarship early in her career led Marie Racine, M.S.R.S., R.T.(R)(T), into the U.S. Army as a radiographer and then through more than 40 years as a radiation therapy instructor and program director. In 2013, Marie continued the circle of giving when she asked the ASRT Foundation to endow the Marie L. A. Racine Scholarship to assist radiation therapists who are pursuing a bachelor's or higher degree.

 

Memorial Scholarship

The Foundation established the Memorial Scholarship during ASRT’s Centennial as a way to support entry-level medical imaging and radiation therapy students entering the profession. The scholarship also offers a way to honor colleagues who are no longer with us. Four of this year’s awards were made possible from generous donations made in memory of Norman Hente, Richard H. Warner, Judith Baron, and Michelle Elizabeth Kino.

 

Northern California Society of Radiation Therapists Scholarship

A generous donation from the Northern California Society of Radiation Therapists will provide scholarships to radiation therapists pursuing medical dosimetry.

 

Parsons Degree Achievement Scholarship

The Parsons Degree Achievement Scholarship was created to help established radiologic technologists earn their first college degree (associate or bachelor's) and was named in memory of Cathy Parsons, former ASRT Foundation Chair. Funding for this scholarship is provided through a generous grant by the ASRT Board of Directors and through contributions from individual donors.

 

Philip W. Ballinger Scholarship

Although Phil Ballinger, Ph.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, retired from teaching a few years ago, he continues to make a difference in the profession through this scholarship fund. Dr. Phil — longtime radiologic technologist, educator, and author in the radiologic sciences — started the scholarship in 2014 to help other R.T. educators return to school to attain a master’s degree or doctorate.

 

Professional Advancement Scholarship

The Professional Advancement Scholarship was created to ensure that radiologic technologists have the financial support they need to complete additional certifications or degrees. Funding for this scholarship is provided through generous contributions from individuals and corporate partners.

Radiation Therapy Pioneers Scholarship

Elaine Chin, B.S., R.T.(T), CMD, and Steven Hardy, M.S., R.T.(R)(T)(CT), CMD, put their passion for the profession and for the pioneers of radiation therapy history into this scholarship that acknowledges radiographers transitioning into radiation therapy./p>

 

Richard S. Kay Endowed Scholarship

Radiographer and entrepreneur Richard Kay, Ph.D., R.T.(R)(M), FASRT, CRadP, MSRP, approached the ASRT Foundation in 2013 to establish a scholarship that reflects his passion for the profession. The award is intended to ensure that entry-level students have the financial support necessary to finish school.

 

Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is the world’s largest credentialing organization that seeks to ensure high-quality patient care in radiologic technology. The ARRT created the Royce Osborn Minority Student Scholarship to assist minority students who are in an entry-level radiography, sonography, magnetic resonance, radiation therapy or nuclear medicine program. This scholarship, created in honor of Royce Osborn, is funded through an endowment from the ARRT and through contributions from individual donors.

 

Siemens Healthineers Clinical Advancement Scholarship

Siemens Healthcare is a trendsetter in medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics and medical information technology. By optimizing clinical workflows, Siemens makes health care faster, better and more cost-effective. The Siemens Healthineers Clinical Advancement Scholarship assists medical imaging professionals seeking to enhance their clinical practice skills and provide excellent patient care. This scholarship will award professionals pursuing a specialty certification.

 

SkinCure Oncology Radiation Therapy Scholarship

SkinCure Oncology is the world leader in providing a comprehensive model for the delivery of image-guided superficial radiotherapy, the most advanced technology for the treatment of common skin cancers. The SkinCure Oncology Radiation Therapy Scholarship will help support students achieving certification in radiation therapy.

 

Varian Radiation Therapy Advancement Scholarship

Varian Medical Systems creates technology for treating cancer with radiation therapy, radiosurgery, proton therapy and brachytherapy. The Varian Radiation Therapy Advancement Scholarship was created to ensure radiation therapists and medical dosimetrists can afford education that enhances their clinical practice skills and helps them provide excellent patient care. Varian funds these awards because it believes in the power of education to make a difference for radiation therapists and their patients.

 

Virginia Milligan Memorial Scholarship

After spending just one day in a radiologist’s office in 1944, Virginia Milligan, R.T.(R), FASRT, revised her plans of becoming a nurse to pursue a career in medical imaging. During her 61-year career, Viriginia witnessed many advancements in the profession. The Virginia Milligan Memorial Scholarship will support students and experienced R.T.s as they help move the profession forward.
